It is right to rebel

Rebel Rebel is a restaurant that has always offered interesting, pleasant surprises. This was the first place I discovered – many years ago – that peaches weren’t only for dessert. Coming here this time was a surprising coincidence. I’d been at the cinema and was ready for good food. I wasn't disappointed and it was an enjoyable quick set of dishes. To top it off it, we'd been reminded of Rebel Rebel on a quick excursion down to the South Coast the previous week.

Zucchini flowers - batter like tempura.

Supporting rising stars
We’d been down the Coast at Mosquito Bay in Lilli Pilli and had a superb breakfast at local institution, Three66 Espresso Bar. The proud owner mentioned her daughter was a chef at Rebel Rebel. I was chuffed for her because being a chef at Rebel Rebel is a definite achievement and it’s fabulous to see the way young rising stars are being supported by the industry.

Eyes bigger than your belly – smelling the coffee by the waves

It doesn't seem to matter what direction you come from, down at the South Coast you always seem to end up at this special spot in Lilli Pilli – Three66 Espresso Bar. It might be for coffee, for lunch, for breakfast, either to take away or to have there next to the quiet waves of Mosquito Bay. It's a different world to Canberra and plenty of Canberra residents make it their second home (or often their first home, once they retire).

Corn fritters with poached eggs and smoked salmon and...there were a lot of ands.

On this occasion my fellow traveller and I walked the cliff face along the Munjip Trail from Malua Bay above the compact pocket bays this coast is known for. I had several coffees (a good sign) and the sweet corn fritters with poached eggs and smoked salmon (and avocado and charred cherry tomatoes and chilli and rocket and decorative flowers – there were a lot of ands).
